Ndikol: characters and bandanas
For Ndikol, images remembered from childhood become a way to address the present. A bandana covering the mouth alters a character’s mood: a comic figure can appear silent, watchful or ready to act. The motif appears in the artist’s exhibition practice, including the Rebel Hearts project.
The Bandanas selection at ArtComburo allows three different silhouettes to be compared. A largely black-and-white image makes the coloured scarf particularly clear, while a small change in face or posture affects the reading of the entire work. Recognising the figure is only a starting point; attention then shifts to what is concealed and what remains visible.
These prints should be distinguished from sculptures and mixed-media works with similar names. The dimensions, paper and edition of one version do not establish the specifications of another. Each product page records the offered impression. In a collection, the shared bandana motif can connect the works while enough space around each image preserves the impact of its individual silhouette.
