More about Javier Calleja
Javier Calleja: gaze, words and character
Javier Calleja works across drawing, painting, sculpture and installation. His figures are recognised through oversized heads and large eyes. A short phrase or a small gesture can alter the first impression: a gentle appearance does not necessarily imply a simple or carefree story.
The ArtComburo selection shows several expressions of this language. Once and in my Life are separate prints with different eyes, colours and words on their clothing; they should not be treated as a single impression or an automatically included pair. Black Cat and The Head explore other silhouettes while maintaining an expressive gaze and direct contact with the viewer.
Compare the works through their specific editions: title, printing process, sheet dimensions and framing. Edition size, blindstamps and signatures cannot be transferred from one version to another. Each product page describes the particular print or poster offered. These images can make a personal art gift for someone interested in character-based work, or form a small collection in which each figure has its own mood.
