TIDE
TIDE is the Japanese artist Tatsuhiro Ide. His feline characters turn domestic scenes into stories about closeness and emotion. ArtComburo presents Pillow, a collectible sculpture embracing an illuminated cushion.
More about TIDE
The artist behind TIDE
Tatsuhiro Ide was born in 1984 and works in Tokyo. During a stay in Australia he became interested in Shigeru Mizuki’s manga and began teaching himself to draw. After returning to Japan in 2009, he concentrated on his artistic practice.
Early monochrome drawings developed into work with acrylics, watercolours and layered canvas surfaces. The recurring cat character became a way to express everyday situations and inner feelings.
Domestic scenes and emotion
TIDE’s interiors can feel comforting and unsettling at the same time. Familiar gestures create intimacy, while unusual situations leave the story open to interpretation. His sculptures carry this contrast into three dimensions.
Solo exhibitions include DEBUT at Gallery Common in Tokyo in 2020, BLOOM at The Mass in 2021 and HAPPYSADEMPTYFULL at Ross + Kramer in New York in 2023.
Pillow at ArtComburo
Pillow depicts a cat holding a glowing cushion. The pose creates a small domestic scene, with a different atmosphere in daylight and when illuminated.
