2CHOEY

2CHOEY is the Thai artist behind Fingies, where hands, fingers and fists give familiar pop-culture characters a different face.

More about 2CHOEY

From architecture to art

2CHOEY is the name used by Bangkok artist Cherdsak Moeikunmak. He studied urban architecture and worked in advertising before concentrating on his own art. In an Aurum Gallery interview, he explains the name’s connection to the Thai expression choey choey. Drawing his own hands gradually became the foundation of his character designs.

Fingies and the language of gesture

In Fingies, fingers, palms and fists replace conventional eyes and mouths. Familiar characters retain their silhouettes but lose predictable expressions. Clear outlines, saturated colour and comic-like forms make recognition immediate; the unexpected face then invites another look. Humour and visual substitution operate together, whether the image appears on a wall or a sheet of paper.

Prints and characters in the collection

At ArtComburo, I Heart Smurf and I Heart Smurfette can be compared with the more narrative Love Under Lock and Key and We Pint Money. Paired works change the character while keeping a recognisable graphic system. Each release has its own technique, paper and edition details. Sculptural works offer another way to approach the artist’s gestures, without making the specifications of separate releases interchangeable.
