More about King Saladeen
Philadelphia and a personal language
King Saladeen is the name used by Raheem Saladeen Johnson. He grew up in Philadelphia, and a connection to the city remains visible in his practice. Alongside paintings and prints, he creates public works. One example is Brotherly Love, presented through Mural Arts Philadelphia in 2024.
The bear, the mark and colour
A recurring bear silhouette provides a starting point for very different images. Outlines, inscriptions, bursts of colour and drawn fragments appear across and around it. From a distance, a clear figure holds the image together; closer viewing reveals a network of smaller interactions. The meeting of a cartoon-like character and expressive gesture connects character art with abstract composition.
