More about Gongkan
Bangkok, New York and Teleport Art
Gongkan was born in Bangkok and studied at Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Decorative Arts. Following work in advertising, he moved to New York, developing street images and illustrations. The thought of moving between distant places became central to Teleport Art: a world where human figures pass through unexpected openings or appear on another side of a plane.
The portal as a transition
A black oval or pale disc is more than a fantastic accessory in Gongkan’s imagery. It divides space, changes scale and suggests another state of being. Quiet colours and smooth graphic forms contrast with a sharply defined dark boundary. Solitude, mutual support and the wish to overcome distance become visible through a simple gesture rather than an elaborate story.
Works at ArtComburo
The Light & The Darkness shows two figures meeting through opposite portals. Leave It Behind places a moving body between two openings, while Create vs Destroy, Love vs Hate and Vacation vs Work compare contrasting images. The collaboration with Suntur brings a quiet landscape into this language. Each paper edition has its own specifications, available on the individual work’s page.
