DOBtopus A

Takashi Murakami DOBtopus A is a collectible figure from 2017, made in painted cast vinyl. The edition comprises 400 copies. Mr. DOB takes on a fantastic form with tentacles, becoming a three-dimensional art object with a distinctive silhouette and detailed surface.

Takashi Murakami DOBtopus A: a character in sculptural form

Mr. DOB is one of the characters through which Takashi Murakami develops his visual language. Created in 1993, the character has changed across different works and formats. Version A has a tilted head, repeated spiral motifs on the ears and tentacles spreading around the figure. Asymmetry suggests movement and makes this version distinctive even when displayed alone.

DOBtopus appeared as a ComplexCon character in 2017 at Marc Ecko’s request. BAIT produced the figures under Murakami’s supervision, translating the tentacled design into a collectible object.
