HOLIDAY THAILAND Black

HOLIDAY THAILAND Black is a vinyl KAWS composition featuring two COMPANION characters. The larger character sits on the Earth, holding the smaller one on its lap; a cratered Moon rests between their hands. X eyes, rounded heads and large palms are immediately recognisable. The relationship between the characters matters here: the smaller one sits within the larger one’s embrace, while the lunar sphere becomes their shared focus.

The KAWS:HOLIDAY installation in Thailand

In May 2025, Thailand became the thirteenth stop of KAWS:HOLIDAY. An 18-metre composition was shown at Sanam Luang in Bangkok from 13 to 25 May. The project was created with AllRightsReserved and Central Embassy. The Tourism Authority of Thailand associated its imagery with the passing of knowledge, care and values between generations.

How the Moon glows

The lunar sphere has a glow-in-the-dark effect. To see it, first expose the Moon to light, then view the figure in darkness. There is no need to press a button or switch on an electric light: the lunar element’s material glows itself. This is a decorative glow rather than room lighting. Its visibility depends on prior exposure to light and the surrounding darkness; the night photograph shows the nature of the effect.

The Black version

Black bodies and heads turn the two characters into a distinct shared silhouette. The pale Moon contrasts with the dark hands, while the blue-green Earth is clear from the side and rear. Black is particularly interesting under different lighting: daylight reveals volumes and gestures; in darkness, the glowing sphere between the hands becomes the composition’s centre.

For a collection or a gift

HOLIDAY THAILAND Black adds a scene with two characters to the journeys of KAWS:HOLIDAY. It can be a gift for someone close to you or a collector interested in works about care and relationships between generations. The subject remains accessible without knowing every release by the artist: the embrace, Earth and Moon allow a personal reading. On an open shelf, leave room to the sides so that the globe does not disappear behind the legs; front and rear photographs can help you choose a viewing angle.
