About MONSTERS Frute Brute
MONSTERS Frute Brute is a vinyl KAWS art toy from his collaboration with General Mills. A brown werewolf in striped overalls. KAWS brings the General Mills fruit-cereal character together with his cross-shaped eyes. This card presents one character, available to choose individually or combine with other figures in the series.
Who is Frute Brute?
Frute Brute is the werewolf associated with General Mills’ fruit cereal. He debuted in 1974 as Fruit Brute and later adopted the spelling Frute Brute. This history explains the unusual name: a character from American breakfast culture, reimagined by KAWS.
How cereal characters became art toys
In 2022, General Mills invited KAWS to design Monster Cereals packaging. The artist reinterpreted familiar advertising characters through his own visual language. Large vinyl versions appeared in March 2024, with MEDICOM TOY announcing Japanese sales from 23 March. This continues the brand collaboration rather than commemorating a separate KAWS installation: a familiar cereal-box image gained volume and became a collectible object.
The figure’s image and details
A long pale muzzle, open mouth and brown body give the character a distinctive personality. Green and red stripes add colour to his overalls, while white hands contrast with the dark figure. Cross-shaped eyes and grey head details bring the werewolf into KAWS’s world while preserving his recognisable clothing.
