ALONG THE WAY Grey

KAWS ALONG THE WAY GREY is a vinyl composition of two COMPANION characters released by MEDICOM TOY in 2019. The figures stand together with bowed heads and hands on each other’s backs. KAWS’s familiar X-shaped eyes and rounded heads combine with a simple gesture of support.

The grey version shifts attention from colour to the composition: bowed heads, curved backs and hands resting on shoulders. Its restrained palette reveals the contrast between soft body contours and graphic X-shaped eyes.

From large sculpture to collectible edition

ALONG THE WAY appeared as a wooden KAWS sculpture in 2013, shown at Mary Boone Gallery in New York. In 2015, the work became the central object of the Brooklyn Museum exhibition of the same name. The vinyl release brings the composition to a smaller scale, with characters around 27 cm tall.

Sales of the three colours at MEDICOM TOY PLUS began on 16 March 2019. Brown, Grey and Black share one pose, differing in palette rather than subject.
