Sketch 400%

MEGA LABUBU Sketch 400% is a collectible POP MART figure featuring Kasing Lung’s character, with a three-dimensional form that looks like a drawing from a sketchbook. Black hatching covers the white silhouette, creating light and dark areas without bright colour accents.

A drawing given volume

The name Sketch captures the design’s main feature. Fine lines follow the rounded head, long ears and small body, while the density of the hatching suggests shadow. Black outlines define the eyes, nose and broad, toothy smile. White hands and feet remain light accents that make the pose easier to read.

Seen close up, the figure moves between two ways of depicting a subject: its shape has real volume, yet its surface retains the feel of graphics on paper. The rhythm of the lines and the silhouette change from different sides, while the monochrome palette brings the details together.

Kasing Lung and THE MONSTERS

Kasing Lung is an artist and illustrator born in Hong Kong and raised in the Netherlands. In 2015, his picture books formed the world of THE MONSTERS. LABUBU is recognised by long, pointed ears and a toothy smile; behind the mischievous appearance is a kind-hearted character.

POP MART produces Sketch based on Kasing Lung’s original character. The graphic treatment of LABUBU is the central artistic device here: it draws attention back to the character’s roots in illustration and shows how a drawn figure can take on a physical form.
