About Bocca
Bocca is a lip-shaped sofa designed by Studio 65 for Italian brand Gufram. The original design appeared in 1970. Its recognisable red form brings everyday furniture into the territory of pop art and surrealism.
The history of BOCCA’s design
Studio 65 drew on the lips in Salvador Dalí’s 1935 portrait of Mae West. BOCCA turns this surrealist motif into a functional sofa, with slight asymmetry giving the form a lively character.
Form and material
Flowing, asymmetric lips form the back and seat. A soft-polyurethane core retains the sculptural silhouette; removable fabric upholstery emphasises the saturated red colour. The image echoes Salvador Dalí’s surrealist furniture, while Bocca’s authorship belongs to Studio 65.
