HOLIDAY CHANGBAI MOUNTAIN Brown

HOLIDAY CHANGBAI MOUNTAIN Brown is a collectible KAWS art toy featuring two COMPANION characters. The larger figure sits embracing the smaller one, their heads tilting towards each other. There is no complex action: closeness, hand positions and a shared pose convey the scene. The familiar X eyes remain part of the artist’s recognisable language. The composition can be read as an image of support, family warmth or quiet time together.

A winter installation in the Changbai mountains

In January 2022, the eighth stop of KAWS:HOLIDAY took place in the Changbai mountains area of Jilin Province, China. KAWS and AllRightsReserved presented a large snow sculpture of two COMPANION characters with support from The North Face. The public presentation at Changbaishan Luneng Resort ran from 7 to 16 January; a media preview took place on 6 January. The winter landscape became part of the experience.

The collectible edition

Vinyl figures in Brown, Black and Snowy White were prepared for this stop of the tour. Sales through DDT Store began on 8 January 2022, Hong Kong time. They repeat the snow installation’s pose, bringing it to the scale of a home collection. The edition’s history is tied to a specific place and event, while the embracing gesture remains accessible beyond that context.

The Brown version

Brown combines brown bodies with pale heads, white gloves and muted green-grey details. The contrast makes the embrace and both characters’ X eyes immediately apparent. The warm palette strengthens the scene’s domestic mood. From the rear, the larger COMPANION’s arm supporting the smaller character and the heads turning towards one another are clear.

For a collection or a gift

HOLIDAY CHANGBAI MOUNTAIN Brown can join an art-toy collection devoted to different stops of KAWS:HOLIDAY or become an individual interior accent. It can be a gift for someone interested in contemporary art and expressive figures. Explore every angle before placing it: faces and hands take the lead from the front; the closeness of the figures is visible from behind. Room around the composition helps it read as a whole and keeps the smaller character from disappearing among other objects.
