HOLIDAY SHANGHAI Brown is a vinyl KAWS art toy: COMPANION lies on its back with one leg bent, embracing the Moon. Instead of an everyday object, its hands hold a cratered sphere. Familiar X eyes and rounded palms make the character recognisable, but the Moon establishes the mood of the composition. The scene can be read as a quiet moment of rest or an attempt to bring something unreachable closer.

KAWS:HOLIDAY in Shanghai

Shanghai was the eleventh stop of KAWS:HOLIDAY. The installation was presented on the North Bund from 29 August to 1 September 2024 with AllRightsReserved. A large COMPANION held the Moon; illumination made the night-time image an important part of the event. The collectible figure conveys this scene on an intimate scale.

A Moon that glows in the dark

All three colour versions have a glow-in-the-dark lunar element. Its material glows in darkness; this is not an electric lamp. The box graphics also have a special glowing finish. Separate photographs show the figure and packaging in darkness, allowing you to explore the effect before buying. The character’s body should not be understood as an entirely luminous object.

The Brown version

The brown body, pale head and white gloves create a warm contrast. The Moon between the hands stands out against the body, while green-grey details add depth to COMPANION’s familiar palette. This version suits a collection that values the character’s classic colours: in daylight, attention rests on the hands and face; in darkness, it shifts to the lunar sphere.
