Balloon Dog Speaker

Balloon Dog Speaker is a portable Bluetooth speaker by Jeff Koons × Lexon × The Broad with an optical-grade polycarbonate casing. The transparent shell reveals the drivers and internal components, giving the sculptural balloon-dog silhouette a new function. It is an object to look at and use for everyday music listening.

The form rests on a contrast: the light-hearted image of a balloon conceals a real technical system. Transparency reveals how the object is constructed and adds new details to a familiar image. It can be chosen for an interest in the artist, its function or its place within a collection.

Sound and controls

The acoustic construction combines six active drivers and four passive radiators for 360° sound. Bluetooth connects the speaker to a music source, while TWS allows two Balloon Dog Speakers to form a stereo pair. Built-in microphones support hands-free calls.

The nose controls volume, playback and pause; controls on the ears select tracks and manage calls. The manufacturer specifies up to ten hours of battery life and USB-C charging. Listening time depends on how the speaker is used.

Jeff Koons, Lexon and The Broad

Jeff Koons is an American artist who works with familiar images from popular culture and everyday objects. Balloon Dog resembles a dog made from balloons: a simple gesture becomes a sculptural image. This collaboration brings his visual language together with product design by the French brand Lexon.

The project was created for the tenth anniversary of The Broad in Los Angeles; the lamp and speaker were presented at the museum in September 2025. These are functional objects inspired by Balloon Dog rather than miniature steel originals of the museum sculpture. The transparent casing makes the technical construction part of the visual experience.
