About the work Through Layers of Colour*
Through Layers of Colour is the ArtComburo catalogue title for this vertical acrylic painting by Popkapi. A face with prominent eyes emerges through pink, yellow, blue and green areas. Fine marks cross larger shapes, giving the surface different levels of density.
The portrait holds a recognisable silhouette while resisting a single expression. At close range, the drawing becomes a network of lines; farther away, the colour planes reassemble the face. The descriptive title was proposed by ArtComburo, not confirmed as an original title.
