Gary Baseman 400%

MEGA SPACE MOLLY Gary Baseman 400% is a POP MART figure made from PVC, ABS and PC, combining MOLLY’s space-themed design with Toby, Gary Baseman’s recognisable character. The red-and-black treatment changes the astronaut’s mood, giving the familiar silhouette an eccentric, slightly theatrical character.

MOLLY as Toby

The collaboration brings together two artists’ worlds. Kenny Wong’s MOLLY retains her large eyes and focused expression. Baseman contributes Toby and his own way of combining humour with the unusual. This is a distinct interpretation of the character, extending beyond a new spacesuit colour.

The release appeared on 21 June 2024. Pairing Toby and MOLLY continues Baseman’s interest in characters that inhabit different media, from drawing and animation to three-dimensional objects. In this figure, that transition is visible in the costume details and the interaction of red and black.

The helmet introduces a play between faces: the raised visor reveals MOLLY, while lowering it adds Toby’s eyes and broad smile. A large eye sits on the chest, and transparent capsules with decorative eyes appear at the back. These details make the interaction between the two characters part of the construction itself.
