About HOLIDAY SPACE Gold

HOLIDAY SPACE Gold is a collectible KAWS figure featuring COMPANION in an astronaut suit. It stands with its hands covering its face; the rounded head details and familiar gesture remain recognisable even in this new outfit. The golden surface reflects light and highlights the folds of the suit. The space theme meets human vulnerability: the figure can be read as a traveller far from a familiar world.

KAWS:HOLIDAY SPACE and the stratospheric flight

In August 2020, KAWS and AllRightsReserved presented the fifth stop of KAWS:HOLIDAY. COMPANION in an astronaut suit travelled on a sounding balloon into the stratosphere, reaching 41.5 km. A panoramic camera recorded the journey. The project marked the character’s twentieth anniversary and offered an experience that could be watched at home during restrictions on public gatherings. SPACE is the project’s artistic title; the documented flight altitude lies within Earth’s atmosphere.

The Gold version

Gold makes the suit’s surface a mirrored accent. The front photographs show hands beside the face, a chest panel and the suit’s relief; the rear reveals equipment behind the shoulders. Changing the viewpoint changes the reflections, so the volume appears different under different lighting. The colour name describes the golden appearance of the surface. The main material is polyurethane, not a precious metal.

For a collection or a gift

HOLIDAY SPACE Gold can join a contemporary-art collection centred on COMPANION or different stops of KAWS:HOLIDAY. It can be a gift for someone interested in designer objects and space-related imagery. Choose a surface where the figure can be seen from different sides. The golden palette catches the eye, so leave room around the figure for its reflections and suit details to remain clear.
