Les Nymphéas as the visual source

Claude Monet devoted Les Nymphéas, or Water Lilies, to the water garden at his home in Giverny. He explored the theme from the late 1890s until his death in 1926. The series observes light, the colour of water and reflections that change with time and weather.

The figure brings these motifs from the painted plane into three dimensions. The crown and dress become surfaces for patches of colour and water lilies, while MOLLY’s characteristic shape remains recognisable.
