Boring Cactus

Boring Cactus is a matte-grey version of Gufram’s famous sculptural coat rack, presented in 2025. The “boring cactus” name is deliberate irony: a restrained office colour is applied to a form that has never been restrained. Gufram describes this as an unlimited edition, distinct from numbered colour releases.

Form, material and concept

The underlying Cactus was created by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello in 1972. The trunk and four branches carry a textured relief; the polyurethane core is hand-finished with Guflac®. Grey quietens the pop-art brightness while revealing volume, silhouette and surface. Campaign photographs use ordinary workplaces to intensify the contrast between everyday life and radical design.

Collecting and interior display

Boring Cactus can stand in a workplace or home as an unusual coat rack and sculptural accent. It suits people who value humour in design and restrained colours. As a gift for a contemporary-design enthusiast, it speaks through form and Gufram’s history rather than promises of investment growth.
