POORTOY

POORTOY is a collectible soft-vinyl figure by POORBOY. A white shaggy character with a broad smile holds a skateboard; black shoes and pale socks reinforce the street-inspired look. Sculpted relief, rather than real fur, defines the hair and edges of the outfit.

POORBOY and skate culture

Behind POORBOY is Thai artist Ton — Kasemwit Chaweewat. His white forest character finds itself in a big city, using humour and adventures to address nature and everyday life. Skateboarding connects this world with the street art and graphics from which the artist’s practice developed.

The board becomes an important part of POORTOY’s composition. The gallery shows it held at the side, raised above the head and placed beside the figure. Close-ups reveal deck graphics, wheels and shoe shapes, offering different views of the same edition.
