Who is Bert & Ernie?

Bert and Ernie are Sesame Street best friends whose contrasting personalities complement one another. Bert is usually more reserved and practical; Ernie enjoys jokes and play. Their stories show how to remain friends, negotiate and stay together despite different views. KAWS retains this closeness, translating the familiar duo into a sculptural gesture of support.

The KAWS × Sesame Street collaboration

In 2025, KAWS and AllRightsReserved presented a vinyl collection of Sesame Street characters. It combined familiar images with the artist’s cross-shaped eyes and sculptural gestures. This release continues his work with Sesame Street but differs from UNIQLO’s clothing and plush toys of 2018: here, the characters are made in vinyl.

Features of the composition

This is one composition with two characters rather than two independent keychains or plush objects. Bert’s tall yellow head contrasts with Ernie’s lower orange head. Coloured stripes remain an important clothing detail. The embrace reads clearly from front and rear: the rear view reveals an arm supporting a friend. The tilted head gives the scene a human sense of trust and closeness.
