Venus is one of the artist’s central characters. Amano reinterprets the classical image through simple outlines, cartoon proportions and distinctive eyes. Sleepy Venus carries this approach into three dimensions: different viewpoints reveal the pose, silhouette and relationship between the figure and pillow.

By day it reads as a small sculpture; in the evening the illuminated pillow changes its mood. It provides an additional light accent on a shelf or table, rather than replacing the main room lighting.
